Themes are set by the photographer or directors, and the casting is done for each accordingly to produce the desired output. Weather its for a mock ad or promotion, it all depends on the shoot. Releases are standard with many professional photographers and they all vary in context. Test shoots are a great way for aspiring models to gain experience before they land that paid gig, they also can attribute to expanding a models portfolio, and sometimes its just a great way to work with your favorite photographer and not have to pay regular fees if any.
